Spring Update and The Way joins Facebook! (24/03/08)
The Trust is in touch with the Derwent Valley Cycleway Group, mainly through Mike Benten. They are campaigning for a cycleway, particularly in the Matlock area. DVCG have a web site at http://www.derwentvalleycycle.org.uk which has links to an online petition and to other relevant sites. They have recently met with Sustrans who are also keen to support the project and have set up their own support group.
Progress is dependant on Derbyshire County Council which has included the route in their Greenways Strategy. Future development relies on the County Council feasibility and costing study which is hoped could be in financial year 2008-09. Derwent Valley Trust has offered to help with fund raising and we hope that this will develop later in 2008. It is unlikely that any physical work will start for at least a year.
There will be some discussion later this year on some circular walks which could be linked to the DV Heritage Way – watch this space!
In other exciting news the Way has joined Facebook. This will allow us to immediately inform our regular walkers of issues affecting the route, such as flood diversions and construction works, as well as reach out to people who have yet to enjoy walking the Way. Please come and join our acebook group.
